Long Island Advertising Agencies: How To Nail Your Internship Interview

By Rob Sutter

Internship opportunities are nothing short of rewarding, which I'm sure any Long Island advertising agency can attest. However, it's important to understand how to complete the interview process first. It's not as straightforward as you might think, but it can be done if you maintain your focus. For those that would like to become interns, for college credit or otherwise, here's how you nail the interview.

Long Island advertising agencies across the board will stress the importance of resumes. Specifically, you must bring a copy, so that the person interviewing you will be able to easily recall what your qualifications entail. In addition, bringing your resume shows that you're professional, not to mention truly interested in the opportunity you're applying for. This is just one of the many tips offered by the likes of fishbat.

Internship interviews come with a variety of questions, so you must be prepared for them. Granted, you might be thrown a curveball or two, meaning that you're not likely to predict every question thrown your way. Nonetheless, knowing how to answer the most common ones means that you will be, at the very least, ahead of the curve. This level of preparation will help you net the internship opportunity you want.

You should also make it a point to dress accordingly. Suits, dress shirts, and blouses are just a few examples of clothing that are perfectly acceptable for internship interviews. "The clothes make the man" is a statement that holds weight, especially in the professional world where you'd like to be taken seriously. Needless to say, this all starts with the outfit that you decide to wear to your interview.

Once your interview is completed, you should wait a day or so before you follow up. Email the person who interviewed you, thanking them for their time and requesting any information that you might be looking for. With that said, there is a right way to follow up. You do not want to go about this process in a pushy way. Professionalism goes a long way, so the more courteous you are, the more likely it is that you'll be remembered in a positive light.
