Preventing Abuse By Teaching Children Animal Care California

By Betty Bell

You will find that most veterinarians and so-called animal health care practitioners say that, "A healthy pet is a happy pet." This is just not so. In fact, it is just the opposite, "A Happier pet is a healthier pet." Therefore, it is important take good care of your animal to guarantee its health. This article delves into tips and different methods of Animal Care California.

When our children get their hands on a kitten or puppy, they are overwhelming. They start whining and begging ("pleeeease? You won't have to do anything, I'll take care of it, and I'll feed it and walk it..."). Course, we do have to consider whether our family has the time and resources to give this small pet its best chance at a good, rewarding life.

However, before you groan at the prospect of vet bills and chewed-up slippers, think of all the things that our children can learn from taking care of pets. Being patiently taught how to care for a pet can foster the kind of empathy and responsibility in a child that can prevent pet abuse from happening in the future.

Pain, obesity, bad habits, stiffness, etc. All have reasons for manifesting in the body. The reason veterinarians (and doctors) cannot cure these things is they don't realize that every person (including animals in the definition of person) have different sources for their problems. Though many have the same or similar symptoms, the cause is different for each, and no magic bullet exists to cure all.

Remind your children that baby animals grow up. A cute, cuddly puppy or kitten will be a full-grown dog or cat in about a year. It will still be lovable and affectionate, but it won't be tiny, and it won't be as cute as it was when you couldn't resist it. A commitment to a pet is a commitment for the pet's entire life, not only when they're small and cute, but also when they're older. Getting tired of an older dog or cat is no excuse to neglect or mistreat it.

Provide your equine with a good shelter - one that can protect him from the wind and the harsh weather outside. You may need to have a bigger stable if you plan to take care of some horses. Also, provide them with ample supply of clean water and make sure the watering trough is not empty. Regular cleaning of its stable is also recommended to maintain cleanliness and good hygiene for them.

Understanding them is key to them being happy and healthy. We know that junk food is not as healthy as a well-balanced diet, but yet we sneak that occasional cookie or bowl of ice cream or candy bar. This is not harmful. It satisfies a desire for such things, and as long as it is not overdone, just like anything else, it does not create a problem.

Better still, what if you never had time to cuddle or play with them? To kids, the idea that their caregiver, the one who is supposed to love them best, would do any of those things is unthinkable. However, they can grasp that they are the caregivers and love-givers to their pet, and should no more do those things to an animal than a parent would do them to a child.
