Discovering A Historic Concert Hall Austin Texas

By Raymond Bennett

Often called the Music Capitol Of The World, the capitol city of Texas has a lot to offer. One great way to see why this is the case is to attend a show at concert hall Austin Texas. While there are a number of concert halls in the city, each have a unique personality. As such, each offers the opportunity to see different genres of live music and Broadway style shows.

Many historic venues have been lost to redevelopment in the last several decades. While this is the case, Bass Hall still provides Broadway style shows, commencement services, plays and dance. In fact, Bass is one venue that has it all and provides entertainment to residents, students and visitors.

Whether musician or poet, a number of venues have been torn down and replaced by million dollar condos in the inner city. As a result, venues which feature these individuals and bands have been pushed out to the suburbs. In some cases, clubs have moved to other areas of town while others have been moved outside the city limits.

As many concert venues were also built over the last few decades, ticket prices for festivals, concerts and shows have also risen. In most cases, Broadway style shows, dance and theater are often the most expensive. Whereas, three day festival passes for a number of live music festivals now go for between three hundred and four hundred fifty for a 3 day pass. Whereas, a platinum pass for the South By Southwest festival can go anywhere from $1,090 to $3,500 depending on when one registers.

Whether due to the new high dollar landscape in many areas, or scalpers working to profit off desperate fans, ticket prices are sky high. As such, only those whom have a great deal of money or whom can win tickets are those seen at shows. Whereas, most of the bands playing have had a following of Austin residents and tourists for year. One way to check out new and old music is to attend one a cancer benefit which radio station KGSR 93.7 puts on early mornings during the first week of South By Southwest in downtown each year.

As $300,000 is now the median cost of a home in Austin, many individuals are being forced to rent rather than buy in the area. Many hope that the housing market will crash and that market values will go down in the near future. For, with the high cost of housing and utilities, there are very few whom can afford to attend shows at any venue.

While favorites, the Saxon Pub, the Continental Club and Austin City Limits Live remain alive and well, most are suffering. In many cases, building owners have increased leases to the point that club management has no option other than to close a venue. Whereas, there are now larger venues West, East, South and North of the city which while having high priced tickets do provide entertainment to those living in and around Austin.

Taking a tour of a concert or music hall can be a fun experience, attending a show even more. When it comes to festivals, Austin host the annual South By Southwest Festival and Austin City Limits Live, although passes to both are extremely expensive. In fact, starting prices for film only passes run over a grand for South By Southwest while a three day pass to the ACL fest often costs approximately $275 to $300.
