Shelters Like The Humane Society San Jose Del Cabo Are The Best Places To Find Furry Companions

By Michelle King

Cats and dogs are living beings that must be cared for. That requires a huge commitment. Some have a specific breed in mind when they start looking for a new pet. Many people only consider pure bred animals, and others only consider puppies and kittens. Some special people choose the adoption route and get their pets from a shelter such as the Humane Society San Jose Del Cabo. There are a number of reasons why this is a great choice.

This choice is a life saver. Every year in America, nearly 3,000,000 animals have to put to death at shelters. These facilities always have more animals than they can handle. When someone adopts a cat or dog that is in desperate need of a home, they are saving the life of that animal and freeing shelter space for another cat or dog.

You can find almost any kind of cat or dog at a shelter. These animals come in every shape, size, age, and temperament. If you are looking for a kitten or puppy, the shelter can provide one. You might be surprised at how many pure bred animals wind up in shelters. Few of these animals have been left because of behavioral issues.

The majority of cats and dogs end up at shelters through no fault of their own. Owners drop them off because they can't afford to keep them, are moving somewhere the pet can't go, are divorcing, or have decided to give up the pet of a loved one who has passed away. These have been someone's pet and can be great additions to new families.

Shelter animals are good economic choices. If you buy a pure bred kitten or puppy from a breeder, you're going to pay hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars. What you are actually spending the money on is the bloodline, the right to register the cat or dog with national organizations, and sometimes, the chance to show it.

The amount of money breeders can get also depends on how popular the breed is. Unless you are in the business of showing pedigreed animals, adopting makes more sense. A lot of shelter animals are house trained and accustomed to living in households. If you adopt an adult pet, you don't have to worry about how big the animal will become.

Purchasing an animal from a pet store or flea market will almost ensure that you are buying a puppy or kitten from a mill. Mills are no more than breeding factories run by people who are only interested in how much money they can make. Conditions are not humane.

Breeding females are confined to cages twenty-four hours a day with no meaningful contact with human beings. When they become too old to have litters, these females are discarded by auctioning them, abandoning them, or actually killing them. No one should ever purchase an animal from a mill, either directly or indirectly.
