Applications Of The Auger Flighting Technology

By Michael Wallace

Industrially, there are several inventions used to allow for efficient production of different goods or services. One significant one is the Auger Flighting machine. Its working mechanism involves a rotating helix screw enclosed within a cylindrical metallic shaft used to transfer materials, either liquids or solids. However, in most cases, for efficient conveyance, the shaft is normally horizontal, or inclined, for faster movement of semi solids.

The technology is widely applied in the agricultural industry to move seeds and grains from trailers, carts and trucks to storage containers, from where the seeds are removed through chutes. A screw auger can be powered through various means, including an electric motor, a tractor, or an internally built combustion channel. During harvests, the upwards rotational movements of the screw carries grains from a lower level surfaces to carts.

Historically, the invention was invented by a person known as Peter Pakosh. It is his initial model that has undergone various upgrades to result into the modern day conveyor. Nonetheless, he experienced discouragements from the team of designers, who shrugged a shoulder to it, terming the invention as hazardous. However, he carried on with its production, and that made him tens of million dollars richer.

Nonetheless, there are other specialized machines that are used to move grains from a truck or a cart into seed drill machine. The difference between this model, and the one used in farms for grain transfers into storage carts is that both its diameter and length are shorter, for seeds are significantly smaller in size than grains.

The agricultural industry is not the only realm where the equipment is utilized. The technology is also applied in other industries, for it was determined to provide efficiency. Hence, it is used in a snow blower, to move amounts of snow into an impeller, which is fitted with a chute, from where the snow is removed. Moreover, ice resurfacing project contractors employ its use to eliminate pellets of ice on an ice surface.

Food processing industries, especially those dealing with meat products, employ the technology too. Processing factories use the it in meat grinders. Meat is passed through the helical screw with sharp edges, to holey plates to produce minces. Through this process, fats are emulsified, and that makes it effective in the processing of hamburgers. Sausage and loaves processing processes also use auger-flighting equipment. Also, bran flake production uses auger-flighting technology to produce bran flakes.

In the markets, there are various types of the screw conveyors, and it is important to have the knowledge to choose the right one for purchase. Whilst searching for the equipment, do not focus too much on the price, but also consider its durability, reliability, and availability of spare parts. Of importance is to check the capacity of grain that it can move in one single cycle.

Alternatively, you can consult the manufacturer to offer you help with the selection process. Being the producers, they understand which sort of equipment is fit for use in certain processes. Maintenance is critical for the long life of any machine. Therefore, read the instructions provided by the manufacturer, in a bid to ensure the equipment serves you for longer.
