The Proper Application Of Medium Intensity Tower Lighting Today

By Robert Long

Presently, the manufacturing activity of humans and the environment is manifesting one of its disadvantages, excessive light. As manufacturing companies are being built and the industry wherein it belongs are expanding, the range and quality of the communication are being improved, which resulted to the building of towers. Fortunately, these companies are given standards by the authorities to reduce the lights that are excessively produced by towers. One of the standards given is the correct installation of medium intensity tower lighting that is to be regarded by companies.

The production of excessive lights is resulting to a light pollution, which will then result to the compromising of the health of the environment which will ultimately result to affecting the people depending on the environment. This production is blamed for the wasting of energy or electricity, which can be blamed for the higher costs being paid by each individual and each industry. As the demand of energy is on the rise, energy sources that are usually environmental are being used up into depletion. Depletion of these sources can be a potential catalyst for the favorable life of human beings today.

Medium intensity tower system is usually used on towers that are seven hundred feet above ground level or less. This system is operated during daytime and twilight. The recommended number of levels are dependent on the height of a structure, including the antennas and appurtenances, below are the levels and what are to apply to them.

Top levels of a tower. One can install one or more lights at the summit of a structure to grant coverage that is encompassing every angle, ensuring an unobstructed panoramic view to pilot in an aircraft. Considering this standard can avoid the increase of air traffic in the vicinity.

Proper applications on appurtenances with a height of forty feet or maybe less. If an antenna, rod, or any kind of appurtenance of this height or less is incapable to support the system, then it can be positioned at the base of an appurtenance. If an aircraft flying on this altitude is still having an obstructed view even with the system, then, additional lights should be installed.

Preferences for appurtenances that are 40 feet and above. If appurtenances, may it be antennas or rods, exceeds forty feet above the tip of the structure, the lights shall be situated forty feet from the tip of an appurtenance. If it is not able to support the units, equipping the power with a pole with a one or more lights mounted to it shall be installed adjacently.

Preferences for the lowest levels. On this height, units shall be situated above the neighboring terrains, buildings or trees. This preference is allowing the light to penetrate through without any obstruction.

Of course, installing proper marking and lighting will depend on the terrain features, weather patterns, and location of the structure. The correct marking and lighting of towers are not to be taken lightly. Every applied standard are meant to produce an acceptable level of aviation safety.

The establishment of these standards by the government was put up to safeguard the comfort and security of its citizens and the world they are living in. Each regulation is to safeguard not only those who are flying but those who are traversing in the ground, as well. The value of human existence and longevity through movements that promote to lessen light pollution must be a top priority of companies who are erecting towers in accordance to their need in thriving in world of technological advancements today.
