The Importance Of A Condensation Sensor

By Stephanie Perry

Technology continues to improve and be reduced in size. This provides great benefits in many different industries as the various types of systems can be incorporated into homes and vehicles. One example is the condensation sensor. This is something that has been included in clothes dryers for many years and makes them more efficient and safe. Rather than having to guess how long to dry clothes, the sensor measures the moisture and the clothes stop being heated when they are actually dry. This technology is now being included in modern vehicles to sense foggy windshields and rainy days.

The fog monitor keeps the inside of the windshield from fogging up. By doing this, the driver may never have to worry about having to wipe the window or squint to see the traffic ahead. As the device recognizes moisture building up on the glass, it automatically adjusts the airflow settings to make sure the glass stays clear. This type of vehicle addition could save countless lives and stop many accidents by making sure the driver can always see. Some will just be set for the front window, but many offer them for all glass in the car.

On the outside of the window is a rain sensor. This is sometimes attached to the wipers. Drivers are aware of having to constantly adjust the speed of the wipers when going from full speed to being at a stop light. The system can now detect the amount of water on the window and adjust the wipers automatically. This lets the driver just focus on driving and not have to worry about constantly being distracted by making adjustments to be able to see.

Turning the rain meter on is simple. Using the car's dash menu, find your way to the wipers section. Within here is the setting to turn it on or off. When it is on, you can set your wiper handle to the automatic or A setting and let the vehicle handle what is needed. Setting your lights to the same automatic setting lets the rain meter turn on the front and rear running lights when it detects possible conditions where having the lights on would be a safer bet.

For drivers that want more control, the system can be turned off. Sometimes when you are waiting for someone to arrive and the car is on, you may not want the wipers to run in the rain or have the lights off. Turning the knobs to manual off settings will keep the system from activating them. You can also go back through the dash menu and turn it off there. If you do this, they will not turn on when in auto mode on the knobs, so you'll need to remember to turn it back on through the dash.

Glass technicians well detach the devices. If you need the glass replaced, be sure to let the shop know that you have these devices on your car. They will usually be detachable and can easily be connected to the new glass. In some cases, the new glass will need to have new devices on them before replacement.

If the device fails you should have it replaced. Most will need to be replaced by a certified mechanic to make sure it works with the car and is installed properly. Once it is replaced things should be back to normal.

Having these types of devices in the car can be lifesavers. The ability to keep the window clean and clear is critical to driving in bad weather. If your car doesn't come with them, you might consider having them installed aftermarket.
