Characteristics Of Beneficial Public Charities

By Brian King

There are local and international organizations that are run to benefit our communities. They are well structured and well managed and mostly offer their services to less disadvantaged communities. In this case, public charities operate exclusively to benefit the public. The Attorney General office has the responsibility of caring the welfare of the community by making sure that the organizations are wholly non-profit organizations and charitable. Thus, they have some characteristics as stated below.

The main aim of a charity organizations is to offer help to communities especially those who are disadvantaged and experiencing some challenges. In this case, they get involved in solving some of these tragedies by establishing schooling facilities, improving the religious and health sectors of the regions and creating homes for the homeless. Therefore, the community benefits from the education and improvement of an area on health which leads to advancement of regions.

The organizations entirely get funds from the general public through donations, at times the government support, individual supporters, and some private foundations. Therefore, they manage to get funds to run their activities smoothly. Also, they get some funds by offering services to the public and from holding some fund raising. Moreover, the donations for these groups are never taxed and therefore attracting more contributions from other foundations whether private or public.

It is a requirement by the central revenue service to ensure that the societies do fulfill the needs of a community as stipulated in their article and the strategies laid down by the organization. They should make sure that the law is considered for it not to be seen as a private foundation and lose the advantages got from funding and reduced taxes.

Municipal Charities should represent the community interest by diversifying the board of directors meaning that more than half of members of the board must not be related in any way. It means that there should be neither blood nor marriage relationships. Hence, the board needs plans for long-term growth and health of an organization which may incorporate the success of the policies put across.

The financial statements of the non-profit societies in most case affect their names in turn affecting some donors to fund them. For the organizations to maintain in their service delivery, some factors such as the incomes they get from fund raising, returns from investments, cash got from refunded tax, and revenue from sales of products and services must be considered. Thus, with a good reputation, they will be able to attract more donations.

But when they want to get more funds, they need to engage more in fund raising. They need to involve their employees in the organization of event and also the executives. Therefore, before embarking on the occasion, they need to pass information and invitations to the government, potential individuals and foundations through emails and their website.

But, in some instances, these non-profit societies do face problems especially when the economy is not going well, and some very many individuals are unemployed. It leads to communities having fewer donors and funds which in result to some closing down.
