Considerations In Choosing A Leash For Surfboard

By Amy Ward

Swimming is not the only thing one can do on beaches and oceans. There are more to that especially when doing activities that are extremely exciting and enjoyable like surfing. However, to enjoy surfing, the ocean must have the best waves to play along with. Yes, this activity is one of the most dangerous stuff to try on the ocean but with the appropriate amount of practice everything can possibly go right. Aside from that surfers are in need of investing into equipment and tools which are of high quality so that they can assure their safety more and one of the things they are in need of greatly considering is surfboard leash.

These are not just a thread that holds the calf on the end of the board. This functions as a safety mechanism and also it helps one keep track of the board even if the tide and wave is extreme. Waves can come in so much of destructible wipeouts and they would not want to break their and lose their surfing boards on the process.

There are several considerations when choosing such threads. One has to understand that it is holding the ankle and connecting it unto the board, it is placed that way for a reason. And for them to better understand its purpose, continue reading below.

The first thing they need to look at when choosing one is the cuff. That is what holds the ankle. Commonly, the standards of such materials are being set into the highest as possible and because of that one may get a hard time choosing which amongst the rest is the best. But then, the one that stands out the most are those Velcro types of cuff.

Then the swivel are also important in the decision making. Choose a leash that has a swivel feature on the attachment. That holds a huge advantage that could allow the leash to spin and then twist without any problem at al. That makes the surfer get the freedom they need in moving along with the tide.

Then they have to choose a cord which is durable enough. Something that hold them together even after a nasty wipeout. One of the material for cord which is so durable would be the polyurethane. Try looking for one that is made of that material.

Then make sure to check on the length as well. Most of the time, this has something to do with the preferences of the surfer. But, the most recommended length would be the longer ones so that movements are more precise and free.

Then thickness may come hand in hand with the length. The width of leash has two classification and surfers may need to use one that is based on their category and needs. The first type is the competition leashes and the other is the regular one.

Try choosing or using the type based on the action one wants to do. Now, for first timers, it could really be a bit overwhelming to choose between many possible products on stock. To help them out on their dilemma, they could ask for help from someone who has a long experience in terms of the activity.
